YunYoung Kim

About
YunYoung Kim combines the painterly sensibility of painting with the tactile materiality of textiles, exploring the emotional strata where the body, memory, and language intersect. After majoring in Oriental Painting in Korea and studying Textile Art in Germany, she has continued to work across the boundaries of these two media. For Kim, the tensions and frictions encountered across cultural, gendered, linguistic, and racial boundaries are not merely experiences of difference. They become moments that reveal the inner landscapes where emotion and memory accumulate, marking the beginning of a process that seeks equilibrium within diversity. Stitching, a central element in her practice, is not simply a technical act. It is a maternal language of the hand and a sensory narrative older than spoken words. The repeated movement of the needle across fabric gives form to memories and time sedimented within the body, showing how emotions become shape and how sensations shift into memory. Through this process, personal narratives remain as records of feeling and embodied traces of history. To the artist, the body is more than a biological structure. It functions as a living archive in which time, relationships, and inherited memories coexist. By translating unseen emotions, silenced voices, and intangible generational traces into embroidery, painting, and textile installations, Kim reveals the circulation of feelings and the layered nature of memory that sustains human experience beyond what is visible.
