About: I begin my work at the point where the material conditions of things reveal their existence.
I have focused on soil rather than land; on the stakes and strings that support a plant rather than the larger systems that sustain its growth; on lingering snow that remains through repeated cycles of freezing and thawing rather than snow that falls and disappears; on banners with holes cut to withstand strong winds rather than forceful slogans; and on tent fabrics that enclose an interior while exposing the boundary of the outside more clearly. These have become subjects in my work and act as metaphors for how a vulnerable individual endures. Drawing is central to my practice, though it sometimes leads to objects or drawing-based installations depending on the work.
