Han & Mona

About
Han & Mona is an artist duo, graduated at Royal College of Art in London. Emerging from photography and sculpture to installation, their work concerns the representation of architectural space and phenomenon of ruin, combining formats as disparate as large-scale photographic work and site-specific installations. As minorities living and staying in Asia and Europe, their research interests focus on overlooked and forgotten buildings that have either disappeared or transformed into ruins during the process of reconstruction. Through large-scale photographicvand site-responsive practices, they explore the ‘visual temporality’ of buildings, coexisting with the past and present, and historical, cultural, and social significance to deeply consider the theme of ‘minorities in society in urban spaces. They are interested in urban space, historical facades and modern construction - reading what lies behind the surface, re-evaluating invisible historical and social narratives. Han & Mona have exhibited and commissioned large-scale photographic installations at internationally renowned art institutions including; the ICA, Camden Arts Centre, Talbot Rice Gallery and SONGEUN, Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp. Their works are in the public collections including; The Royal Scottish Academy, MMCA, and Deauville City Photography Collection. They are the recipients of awards the Gilbert Bayes Award and Bloomberg New Contemporaries, and have received grants from the Arts Council Korea and Freelands Foundation.
