Miro Kang

About: Miro Kang, born in Busan, Korea in 1986, graduated from the Department of Fiber Arts at Ewha Womans University and later earned her MFA from Long Island University in New York.

Beginning her artistic career in New York, Kang has delved into the use of transparent materials, optical illusions, and the interplay of light and shadow to convey abstract representations of her unique emotional experiences.

Kang states that the abstract emotions conveyed in her work are composite blends of excitement and reactions to external stimuli, as well as conscious experiences that integrate both thoughts and feelings. The resulting work is considered to be the language of the mind and the most effective medium for expressing emotions. Her works, even when channeling specific emotions, are the culmination of a profound interplay between the body and mind, originating from within.

In her pieces, like the ocean waves that endlessly rise and fall, the grooves on corrugated surfaces elevate inner feelings to the world of the infinite. Intangible light traverses the artwork, revealing the full depth of colors upon the grooved textures, thereby extending the artwork's significance into the ambient space and materializing the shared experience of emotion.

The sharing of emotions is a vital component of a functional life. Kang’s abstract work, characterized by serene and simple images, invites viewers into a meditative state, prompting the release of their deepest emotions and an expansion of awareness. This reflective state encourages revisiting and reconnecting with personal feelings and memories. The audience is given a space to sort through their own complex emotional hues and engage in self-reflection.
